The VTT continues to negotiate Lease with Council

The Victoria Theatre Trust continues to negotiate with the NSCC the finer details of a long term lease, and will hopefully be completing these negotiations in the near future. The trust will endeavor to keep the community up to date with developments.

New Seats acquired through Donation

At the end of June 2009, the VTT were able to secure ownership of some 300+ seats from the Rialto Cinema complex in Hamilton.
The seats were effectively donated by Kiwi Income Property Trust, along with some sound equipment (several theatre standard speakers).
On the 29th June, Paul Martin (Chair) and Paul Cornish (Treasurer) headed down to Hamilton with a couple of helpers, to remove the chairs and bring them back to Devonport. A long day – but well worth the effort!

Introducing the (new) Victoria Theatre Trust to Devonport

Media Release: 03 July 2009

With lease negotiations between council and the Victoria Theatre Trust (VTT) announced last week, there has been considerable interest in the project.

Paul Martin, Chair of the Trust since October 2008, says the members of the VTT and the Trust’s focus have changed significantly since his arrival. The negotiations present a great opportunity to introduce the board to the Devonport community.

“The new board has been carefully constructed to represent the broad set of skills that will be required to develop the Victoria Theatre to its full potential.

“This has taken some time, but the wealth of talent within Devonport upon which we have been able to draw has been very encouraging,” says Martin.

“Since the announcement regarding negotiations was made last week, there has been a huge surge of interest in the project.

“We are endeavouring to follow up on all enquiries we receive and look forward to presenting a varied and viable programme of events to the community”
